Humble Choice (January 2024): Two Point Campus

Two Point Campus - Urban Bungle Map

Two Point Campus is part of January’s Humble Choice.

“Build the university of your dreams with Two Point Campus, the sim with a twist from the makers of Two Point Hospital. Build, hire staff and run an academic institution packed with wild courses.”

The game costs 29,99 €. It has previously been on sale for more than 60 % off and more (the lowest price listed for Fanatical is 8,24 €). So, if you have always wanted to get this game, then this month’s Humble Choice could be a nice deal already unless you catch it for the very cheap price on Fanatical.

I got the game about a year ago as a gift from my husband. I don’t think I would have bought it for myself, though. I already own Two Point Hospital and have been playing that a lot. In comparison, it just didn’t feel worth the money. Two Point Campus has the same graphics, the same UI, it plays super similar to Two Point Hospital. So why switch and spend even more money on a game that’s basically just a re-skin?

Two Point Campus - Items

After having played Two Point Campus, I can answer my own question: Because it’s fun! Because if you do like Two Point Hospital and are interested in the college theme, then it is very likely that you will like Two Point Campus as well! The last day I played Two Point Hospital was the day before I got Two Point Campus.

Both games seem to have the same monetization strategy. You get the base game and they will release a few DLCs. Two Point Hospital was released in 2018 and got 7 content DLCs. Two Point Campus already has three DLCs released. They mostly add a new map, new courses for your students and a bit of extra things (like events, a new club or new items to place). They did release a “Medical School” DLC, basically adding a mini-version of Two Point Hospital into that game. Altogether, the DLCs blend in with the base game very well, but they are also not something you have to have!

Two Point Campus - Student Overview

But enough about the comparisons. In case you have never heard about either game or know very little: Two Point Campus is a simulation/management game where you manage a college. It has a “career mode” that lets you play through several maps. There is also a challenge mode and a sandbox mode. I have only played the first mode so far. Here, you have to achieve certain goals. The goals get increasingly difficult (ranging from 1 to 3 stars). But as soon as you reach the 1 star goals, the next map is unlocked and you can either continue playing or move on to the next map with a new college.

You need to make sure that your students are happy by adding nice dormitories, bathrooms, areas where they can eat, meet – and party, of course! But they also need to learn and achieve good grades! If the grades are too low, they fail their classes which makes your college look bad, of course. There is a lot of information with graphics, etc. available to you.

There is also some micro-management necessary. Your staff wants to be trained, you can research new items, you need to make sure your students don’t fail (send them to private tuition classes if they don’t go on their own) or to pastoral care if they need somebody to talk to. Thankfully, you can save a room as a blueprint, so you don’t have to place every single item again and again and again whenever you place a new dormitory because you are slowly growing! Every year, new students come in and you may want to add more classes on your campus!

The classes aren’t standard ones that you get to take at a college. Most of them are silly (Dark Art, Knight School), some are at least somewhat related to real-world classes (like Gastronomy or Archaeology). But none are portrayed in a serious way.

If I had to choose between Two Point Hospital and Two Point Campus, I would definitely choose the latter. It’s got a more light-headed theme, but most of all, I like that I don’t have crammed hallways with patients waiting and queuing for the same rooms all the time. It’s just a lot nicer to look at!

My personal verdict is: If you like the graphics and the quirky humor, then this is a perfectly good game to get!
