Primalist and cross-promotions

All of Trion’s own games (Defiance, Rift and Trove) are receiving some cross-promotion rewards when you log into their newest game, Atlas Reactor, this weekend (to be more precise, between Friday, Oct. 7 at 5:00pm (PT) and Sunday, Oct. 9 at 11:59pm (PT)). In Rift, everybody gets 15 days of free Patron time. If you’re in the USA, you can also win a pack with all of their mounts. In Trove, you get two Empowered Gem Boxes. In Defiance, you get 15 days of Patron time (if you’re playing on the PC) and 2 x 15 inventory slots (both for PC and console players).

Logging into Atlas Reactor seems to be enough to get these rewards. So if you really don’t care about the game, just install it briefly, log in, check if you got the rewards in your game(s) and uninstall the game again. Or… give it a try! :p Despite it being advertised as a turn-based PvP game, you can perfectly play it as a PvE game with or without other players, by the way!

So with 15 days of Patron time in Rift also comes a 10 % discount in their store. I completely missed that they had reduced the cost of their additional class, the Primalist, back in April. It’s still not cheap if you ask me, – about 28 € without the discount – but with the discount, I decided it’s time to get the Primalist. I like having all classes unlocked in my MMOs! What I had not considered was that I also needed another character slot. Thankfully, I was not at the maximum amount already (12) and “only” had to buy another slot and character slots are reasonably cheap.

After that, the usual “obstacles” occurred. Do I really want a 5th dwarf? I already have one elf in both factions and for me, that’s about 1.5 elves more than I have on average in most other games that have that race. ;) I chose to try out a human on guardian side (a Mathosian) instead since I do not have one. Yeah, I’m not a fan of humans either, because they are too ordinary for fantasy games. So I’m not really sure why I chose this one… I just figured it might be nice to have something non-dwarf for once and the other non-elf non-human is the Bahmi race which I found too big and bulky for my taste. So, welcome, little Ghamina. May you grow a few levels before the expansion arrives and you’ll be put back on the shelf as my dwarf cleric will take over again! Also, I can’t believe I had not saved or used the name Ghamina on that shard until now…

Update 2: Here are the winners.

The Prehistoric Pack goes to Boazi. The early access codes for the Dino Tamers will be sent to CommanderCupsize, Irubor, Tortorion, ImaSnaaaaake, Louie, Mateus Andrade, Jason, Lily, Varokin and Midget. Congratulations!

(Update: This giveaway is closed. The winners will be contacted soon!) Trove is adding a new class to its game, the Dino Tamer! You can read all about it on the official website. It will officially release on September 13, but here you get the chance to get it 10 days earlier (and completely free)!

Trove_Dino Tamer Lasertops Mount

The “main prize” is the Prehistoric Pack. This pack consists of the Dino Tamer class, the Laseratops Mount that you can see in the screenshot above, two costumes for the Dino Tamer, 3 class gem keys and two terraformers (which you can use in a club world). You can see everything listed on Trovesaurus’ page including a few pictures!

But we also have 10 codes to give away which unlock the Dino Tamer class. This class will be available on September 13 for everybody, but you will either have to use a class coin to unlock it or buy it off the store. So if you get one of these codes, you will not only get immediate access to it, but you will also get the class for free! :D

Please note: Codes will expire on the first Monday of next month which is September 5. That’s why the deadline for this giveaway is much shorter than we usually do.

The Big “Trion Worlds Games” Giveaway

Update (August 6): The comments section is closed. We will draw the winners in a bit and will update you in this blog.

As a welcome to the Content Creator Program, we received a bunch of codes for each of Trion’s games! I don’t even know if we have readers from all of their games, but we will still give away the codes here. Since it’s a long list and lots of things, I will try to keep everything as short and easy as possible. You will find pictures of some of the prizes below as well, in case you want to see what you can get first. :)

Here’s the list of prizes

  • ArcheAge: 2x Skywhisper Glider & Oathbound Plate (2 prizes in total)
  • Atlas Reactor: 2x Gray’s Citadel Style (2 prizes in total)
  • Defiance: 2x APS Envoy Outfit and Headgear & Blue/Red Challenger Vehicle (2 prizes in total)
  • Devilian: 2x Shimmering Devil Wings (2 prizes in total)
  • Trove: 4x Streamer Dream Boxes (4 prizes in total)
  • RIFT: 2x Community Racing Snail as well as 2x Radar Corgi Pet (4 prizes in total – the mount and the companion are given away separately)
  • As well as 3x Closed Beta Invites for Atlas Reactor – A note: Atlas Reactor switched its business model to “buy to play”. So you will get beta access and can play throughout the beta, but once the game launches, you will need to buy it if you want to continue playing. The closed beta invites will be given away separately. You can read more about that in the rules section below.

The gallery above shows what can be in the Trove Streamer Dream box. One of those items will be what you will receive with said box. Below, there are screenshots for the prizes in Rift (The snail mount as well as the corgi companion – those are two separate prizes!), Atlas Reactor (Grey’s skin) and Devilian (those devil wings). I don’t have screenshots for the ArcheAge and Defiance prizes.

Ask Nerdy Bookahs: March 2016

It’s time for another “Ask Nerdy Bookahs”. We have looked through the search terms that led people to our blog for which we know we do not have fitting answers in our blog posts and we’re trying to cover those topics here now. For better readability, I am changing the plain “search terms” to correct the grammar and add the missing question marks. :p

Is anything placed in the officer chest going to despawn in Trove?

logo_troveNo! The officer chest works just as the other chests. They are a permanent storage space. If you placed something in there and it “disappears” it is very likely that another officer from your club took out the item. If it disappears and nobody touched the chest, then I recomment contacting support as that sounds like a bug then. But usually, nothing despawns. Also, be careful with the “community chest” you can find in the hub or even place in your club. That one can be accessed by every single player in Trove, so items placed in there will be taken out within a few seconds.

Best areas for experience [at] level 50 in Guild Wars 2?

logo_GW2I assume you meant where you can level the fastest, right? Since they added the megaservers, I never really saw any map be empty, so I would say that it doesn’t matter. If you take a look at our “Regions by level” post, you can see that at level 50, you have several choices. Also keep in mind that you get downlevelled in areas where your character is too high level. So theoretically, if time isn’t an issue, you can go to lower level regions and still receive experience to level. Anyway, Blazeridge Steps and Dredgehaunt Cliffs are for levels 40 to 50, so with level 50, you are actually leaving those areas. Bloodtide Coast is for levels 45 to 55, so you will be able to level in there and even find some challenging areas. Iron Marches and Timberline Falls are just opening up for you. If it were me, I would choose Iron Marches over Timberline Falls, simply because I enjoy the scenery there and it is fascinating lore-wise (with the Great Northern Wall and all that). But since you can just use waypoints to teleport, I would say just go check out the maps and if you find one with active events and players doing them, stay there.

Your favourite profession in Guild Wars 2 and why?

Mesmer, warrior, engineer and thief – depending on when you had asked me since the game’s launch, the answer would have been one of these. It also probably highly depends on my current mood and what I’m doing in the game. Most of the time, it was either mesmer or warrior.

GW2 Rata Novus Fighting

The mesmer is fun for her tricky gameplay. I like being able to get out of difficult combat situations with her illusions, switching positions with a clone and so on. The warrior, on the other hand, has more “oomph”, especially in melee, and she is a lot more forgiving when it comes to mistakes or standing in the middle of an attack.

Is the Revenant in Guild Wars 2 fun?

Oh, I know the person who entered that search term was probably just looking for other people’s experiences, but in the end, it’s always up to yourself whether you think something is fun or not. In my case, yes, I think the Revenant is fun, but I have not played her much. I cheated and used Tomes of Knowledge to get her to level 80. I had first considered levelling her the regular way, but then realized that if I did that, all the experience would go into her levelling up, while when I boosted her to 80, she would immediately be able to gather mastery XP instead and my time would be spent much more effectively that way. It’s a bit sad that it works like this, though, especially as I feel a bit overwhelmed with playing a new profession. Hey, if you’ve been following this blog, you may have realized that I am getting old (or I’m just stressed and tired from work… either way :p). I regularly fall asleep in front of the PC in the evenings. Not even because of lack of sleep, but just because concentrating on something after a day of work is not possible anymore. So, I rather play in a way that doesn’t require much concentration which is essentially playing with my mesmer or my warrior with whom I have the most experience.

Back to the Revenant: I think this profession’s mechanics are refreshing, because they are different from the other professions. You choose a stance and with those, you get a fixed set of utility skills, one stance-specific heal skill and elite skill. You can switch between two stances which means that you get 6 different utility skills, two heal and two elite skills to use. But in general, for me at least, the profession is not more fun than my mesmer and my warrior, so I am still mainly playing these two.

Lion’s Arch loading screen

This is currently the loading screen. If you have an issue with Lion’s Arch taking a long time to load: I think that’s normal. At least, the loading screen is interesting to look at. :p Having Guild Wars 2 on my SSD reduces the loading time a lot for me, though.

Bookahneer’s Geekwatch (28. February 2016)

Guild Wars 2 Bookahneer's GeekwatchFragmented, the game that the developers of “The Repopulation” are working on as a basis for the engine-switch of Repopulation, is entering closed testing soon. You can sign up and apply for it here if you like. If you need more information about Fragmented, I wrote about it in January. Head over to that post where you will also find several links to official statements from the developers regarding both games.

I am very excited about Fragmented, especially since I have been playing quite a lot of Defiance recently. That game is also a third-person shooter-ish game where you cannot scroll far away from your character. I often have issues with simulation sickness, especially when games use first person view, so that I do not even touch those games unless I want to put myself on a special… “diet”. But it seems to have gotten much better in the past few years. Commuting to work via train and reading while on the train slowly made me be able to “handle” more before motion sickness comes in, I think. At least, the time where I started to tolerate more before feeling sick correlates with the time I had that commute.

Anyway, enough about that. The end result is that I can tolerate games like Defiance just fine now and I am excited to play Fragmented. Hopefully right when closed testing starts, but it does sound like they are beginning with just a small sample of testers which probably makes sense. If I’m not chosen, I’ll just sit here waiting more or less patiently until I can get back into that world!

Now, on to another topic. When Trove launched on Steam, it got extremely popular with lots and lots of people rushing into the game. The poor servers couldn’t handle it well, but that’s not the topic I want to focus on here. Trion Worlds just announced that they are going to wipe inactive character names come March 7! If you last logged into the game prior to August 1, 2015, but you actually like your name and want to keep it, then I suggest you better log on again before March 7. On the bright side, you will also receive 1500 cubits and 5 chaos chests (which can contain nice loot like a mount or an ally) simply for logging on.

Welcome to Bookahneer’s Geekwatch! This is the place where we take a look at all those little pieces of gaming news that have attracted our interest and talk about what’s recently been in the spotlight of other fansites.
