Happy Holidays!

Christmas treeBookahnerk and I want to wish you all Happy Holidays and, of course, a Happy New Year!

Looking back at 2014, I can say that it was a very busy and stressful year: More hours at work (getting paid for those, of course, so this is a very good thing!), we moved to a new place (a tiny part of which can be seen in the picture on the left :p), I got sick and now apparently have to deal with neurodermatitis.

Altogether, I can still say it’s been one of the best years I’ve had so far. But that is “just” the real life part. As you know, we usually keep away the “real life” stuff from this blog as much as possible, because this place is about the gaming side of our lives. Gaming-wise, it’s been a good year, too, though. We are still playing Guild Wars 2, but added Rift, Trove and a few other multiplayer and/or offline games.

My personal regrets are spending money on Tropico 5 and Warlock 2 at launch. I was so disappointed with both games that it seems like a waste of money. I could have waited for the games to become cheaper and buy them then – and I would still be disappointed, but at least, I wouldn’t have spent as much money on them. Warlock 2 added an in-game store and got rid of it again by now. However, I am not a fan of those small land parts (called shards, I think?). Other than that, I think I can’t complain about the game too much. I just wish I had bought it a bit later. :p Tropico 5, on the other hand, added a few nice things (being able to see which types of buildings you have already built, for example), but there is just so much stuff I don’t like (e.g., the seemingly very low population limit and having to go through all the eras with buildings being locked or becoming obsolete later on). So from now on, I’ll be more careful with buying games on release day… oh, who am I kidding, I am much too impatient for that. ;)

My gaming highlight was probably the Rift expansion and definitely Trove. The expansion is okay-ish when you look at the maps they added. I’m just not a fan of watery areas for questing. It did get me to play a lot more Rift, though, and that’s great. Especially with their minions system that they added and the enormous influx of dimension items which means that my dimension is slowly getting filled with furniture. Trove, on the other hand, was a positive surprise for me. When I had first seen it, I knew I wanted to try it out, but I didn’t think I would have that much fun playing it!

Anyway, enough rambling for now. Thank you for sticking with us through another year of blogging and gaming! As you may know, we still have two giveaways going: Win colourful in-game items and win a charrlie plushie or a mini llama. We are also hosting ArenaNet’s Window Decoration Contest along with other fansites.

Directly after Christmas, we will be away visiting family in another part of the country. So we won’t be too active here. We will, of course, roll for the winners of the giveaways. So don’t worry about that! :)

Enjoy the holidays and hopefully, you can also use the time to recharge your batteries.

  1. Happy Holidays! :)

I don’t think I’ve regretted any game purchase this year but on the other hand I didn’t try many games that I wasn’t keeping tabs on already either. The exception are a few that had a native Linux release that I’d otherwise would have passed since they aren’t my type of games.

Also, thank you for the giveaways! I haven’t been participating on them since I haven’t been playing Guild Wars 2 for quite a while but I still think it is a pretty cool thing. :)

May the next year be even better for you and your loved ones! :)

    1. I was following those two games before they were released and from what I heard, I got really excited. The positive things I saw from Tropico 5 are also still the things I really like and where I think they made a step forwards. I did not expect them to take that many steps backwards, though. It feels… better and worse. Very conflicting, but in the end, it makes me not want to play the game and that’s bad. Warlock 2 was just a personal “meh, it sounded better in theory”. ;)

Guild Wars 2 has dropped on my “play”-list as well. As I said, we both still play it, but there are just so many areas where we both wish the game could offer us something or something more, at least, or where the game is going in a direction that we don’t like too much (living story, most of all). But yeah, I don’t think we’ll ever stop being a “blog about Guild Wars 2 among other games”. :p

but for me holidays are always about more work also !!! working in a family business sometimes is more “harsh” xD

for me the games of the year were TotalWar Rome II which finally has been fixed ! and World of Tanks which gained my attention for 2nd time ! yes both already released games :) mostly i look into the new year for the Black Desert online / Attila TotalWar and Witcher III if i had the time i would alreadt play Black Dessert on korean servers but this demands times and efforts which i dont have at my age xD

my wishes the new year will come better without neurodrmatitis !!!

    1. Hmm… I’m mostly looking forward to Folk Tale hopefully getting done. 1,5 years of waiting and it’s still far from being a finished game is – well, I’m not going to complain. That’s what Early Access is. :p But I really really want to see the finished product!

      Thanks for the wishes! :)
