Lion’s Arch – Screenshot gallery

Update May 2014: I made a new post where you can also find pictures of Lion’s Arch with its various holiday decorations.

Update April 2014: Lion’s Arch has seen quite some changes. I did another screenshot gallery of “old Lion’s Arch” before Scarlet’s attacks. You can find it here. During the attacks, I took a few more pictures. After the attack, I went through Lion’s Arch again to capture the ruins of the city. Those ruins are the current state of Lion’s Arch in the game.

Hmm… it reminds me of something.

I managed to find 26 out of 26 points of interest. I am proud of myself because I even dived through two canals and in the deep water even though I have a phobia. I didn’t meet any aggressive fish which helped – although I was always scared something would attack me when I didn’t look. But oh no, it’s a peaceful area apparently. :)

I took 400 screenshots in just over 24 hours (mostly of Lion’s Arch but there were other regions I visited as well!). I don’t think I’ve ever taken that many in another game. I’m not going to review or write/complain about anything game-related right now because it is the first beta weekend event and I’ll give them one more to sort out the issues (lag, not being able to log in, server crashes, the usual…). I got kicked only once today, by the way. ;)

Anyway, as I said, I explored Lion’s Arch and I present you some of the prettiest screenshots I took. No further commentary, even though I could tell you soooo many things I saw and noticed. But just enjoy the pictures. And if you have questions, ask away! :)

It took me quite some time to take all those screenshots, sort through them and upload them here. However, they’re not just for looking. If you want to use them (e.g., as a desktop wallpaper, for fanart, in your blog,…) feel free to do so – as long as it complies with ArenaNet’s copyright, of course, and you’re not saying it was you who took those screenshots. ;)

  1. Very nice pictures! I don’t think I’ve seem any of these places since I am still running around the newbie charr area. That and I am known for being oblivious to my surroundings.

I think I will try to take some time tomorrow to take some screenshots too. Just to remember how thing were during the beta. :)

    1. I’ve only uploaded half of what I’ve taken, I think. I always take a ton of screenshots – or so I thought. But I really never took more than I did in the last two days. Unfortunately, you can’t zoom in enough to not have your character shown. They did it on purpose because they want you to connect to your character or whatever… if you use /sit and then take a screenshot, your character is usually so low on the picture that it can’t be seen – unless you decided to make your charr’s horns really long. *sigh* Won’t do that mistake once the game launches!

  2. After visiting Lion’s Reach today, I can see why you took so many screenshots. It is like every way you turn there is something screenshot worth! :)

Yeah, not being able to zoom in so your character doesn’t appear in the screenshot annoyed me too. There were a lot of times where it was kinda tricky to find a spot where my character wasn’t blocking something interesting. I didn’t know that about the sitting though and it is something I need to remember for next time!

    1. GuildWars2 just recommended /sleep. Haven’t tried that because I tried /lay or /lie and that didn’t work. Oh well… ;) Still, I complained to them that it’s annoying to use a work around and I’d strongly prefer being able to just zoom in! I don’t know any other MMO where that isn’t possible and why do they bother creating such gorgeous sceneries (and they did!) when they don’t want us to take pictures of the sceneries… :(

  3. Awesome pics! how on earth did you get rid of the UI? :D
I searched and searched for this option lol….also I was unable to zoom in enough to get rid of my character’s back. I had to sit down in order to ‘disappear’.

    1. Shift + Print gets rid of the UI. Then /sit or /sleep on top to get rid of your character. There’s no other way to make your character disappear. I stubbornly reported this as a bug because for me, it IS nothing but a bug. They can’t be serious about not allowing us to hide our character. ;)
