GW2: More screenshots

I’m late, I know. Real life and all that. You probably know how it is. ;)

We had planned to write an in-depth posting about our Beta Weekend Event and Stress Test experience but eh, sometimes, there just isn’t enough time. So, to keep it short (as I need to get up in a few hours and go to a conference from which I’ll thankfully return Saturday evening), our stress test experience in a nutshell: My client crashed twice which is twice as much as I had last BWE. I had created an elementalist to maybe finally try out that class but figured I actually rather wanted to spend those four hours playing my warrior and not having to learn a zillion new skills. I did end up unlocking skills for her off-hand weapon which meant learning new skills, but at least, I was familiar with the gun and the sword in her main hand. Other than that, I had a look at the scenery outside the cities (just as pretty as the towns) and we got to enjoy the company of DragonSeason, the guild. Being as silly as we are, our highlight was killing Tilion right after he had teased us in guild chat to do so. Ah yes, we finally got to experience the event that ArenaNet had originally planned to take place at the end of the last beta weekend event. But enough babbling for now. Enjoy the screenshots. :)

Guild Wars 2: Hoelbrak Screenshot Gallery

With Hoelbrak, the series of screenshot galleries is finished… for now. As soon as they let us into Rata Sum or The Grove, me and my print-hitting finger will be back! ;) Unfortunately, Hoelbrak was also the most boring one for me to go through. As the wiki entry says, Hoelbrak is basically a hunting lodge that became the biggest settlement. When you go into Hoelbrak expecting a settlement, it’s alright, I guess. But I went there after having been to Divinity’s Reach and it was a bit disappointing because the latter is a city/town and Hoelbrak… isn’t. The colours in the sky are still amazing, though. I always love regions like that in MMOs, especially during the summer. ;) All in all, it was a bit too much ice and blue at once for me. Anyway, here it is, the last screenshot gallery (for now!).

It took me quite some time to take all those screenshots, sort through them and upload them here. However, they’re not just for looking. If you want to use them (e.g., as a desktop wallpaper, for fanart, in your blog,…) feel free to do so – as long as it complies with ArenaNet’s copyright, of course, and you’re not saying it was you who took those screenshots. ;)

GW2: 84 miniatures and their idle animations

Bookahnerk spent the second BWE trying to get as many miniatures as possible. Having a global* trading post helped a lot here. He was able to get almost all of those that were available except for Mini Ragar Shardhammer, Mini Skam Darkhoof and Mini Zojja (*sob* I would have loved to see her!).

Out of the humanoid minis, only a handful are female, by the way. For example, there are 11 male humans, 1 male human ghost and one female human, whose icon shows a man. We have 8 male norn miniatures and one female, Eir. Keep in mind that this is beta and I actually expect about 10 more female human minis and 7 more female norn minis to appear before launch. Everything else would be very weird, especially considering that the minis are really just that: Minis. Miniature versions of the character models that we use for playing ourselves. There’s no new art associated with it, I assume. Also, some minis don’t have proper animations yet. I’m not going to repeat the b-word here. ;) But we can see that the game is not ready yet as there are still things that need to be fixed… details, maybe, but still.

Anyway, it’s great to see how many there already are and I can’t wait to start collecting them all!

* By the way: Is it global or region-restricted (as in: Europe, USA,…)?

Guild Wars 2: Divinity’s Reach Screenshot Gallery

Today, I’m picture-guiding you through Divinity’s Reach. After going through Lion’s Arch during the first BWE, I realized that I had forgotten to look at the human capital. Still, when BWE2 started, I headed straight for the Black Citadel because I had found it much more interesting at first glance. Also, how exciting can it be? Yet another medieval-looking town. *yawn* Right? Boy, was I wrong. Well yes, it is a medieval-looking town, but at the same time, it’s still very pretty and had cute little corners and interesting architecture. My favorite part was the laundry in a backyard. I also have pictures from Hoelbrak which I wanted to show first but by popular demand (well, two people on Twitter), I am going to show Divinity’s Reach first. ;)

And now, before I present you my gallery, here’s a little information about Divinity’s Reach. Lion’s Arch had been the capital before but Divinity’s Reach took its role after it had been flooded (by the rise of Orr). The Wiki describes the city as a melting pot with residents coming from Cantha, Elona and Ascalon. I was in a part of the city where my Elonian warrior would feel right at home, I think. It’s a bit difficult for me to say which picture is from which district of the city, though, as I was walking through it without my interface showing up and without staring at the map all of the time. But as usual with the Wiki, you can find plenty of information about the city and its areas there.

It took me quite some time to take all those screenshots, sort through them and upload them here. However, they’re not just for looking. If you want to use them (e.g., as a desktop wallpaper, for fanart, in your blog,…) feel free to do so – as long as it complies with ArenaNet’s copyright, of course, and you’re not saying it was you who took those screenshots. ;)

Edit (August 3, 2013): Something changed in Divinity’s Reach with the July release. This is the area of the Great Collapse.

Day and Night Cycle in Guild Wars 2

It takes 2 hours for one day and night cycle to complete in Guild Wars 2. Very nice! I’ve always disliked the idea of having it in “real time” (I think World of Warcraft does it) because it takes so long to watch the sunset, which is my favourite time of the day in most games. ;)

This video was recorded, edited and uploaded by my silent half, bookahnerk.

I have also asked on Twitter whether if I should upload the screenshots from Divinity’s Reach or Hoelbrak next. Divinity’s Reach is in the lead (2:0) right now which actually isn’t surprising to me. I have always liked the look of Hoelbrak but from all cities that I have walked through and taken screenshots, I was actually rather bored with Hoelbrak. Still, both are pretty and have cool areas! We’ll see which one it will be soon.

Guild Wars 2: Black Citadel in all its glory

The last time, I went sight-seeing in Lion’s Arch. For this BWE, I chose Black Citadel because I haven’t seen or heard that much about this place so far. For reference, read the wiki entry for Black Citadel. As you can see, there isn’t too much information about Black Citadel. Most notable is that it is built above the ruins of Rin which was the capital of Ascalon once in a time, and you can still see the Great Northern Wall on one side of it. You do not even have to look at closely to spot the ruins as they are everywhere in the charr’s city. What surprised me, partly because I obviously had not paid attention to it prior to this BWE, is that the Black Citadel is not the capital of the charr. It is the headquarters of the Iron Legion, which explains the look of the place. I am once again impressed by ArenaNet’s art/world design team! The ruins of Rin together with the Iron Legion’s work formed this city and I couldn’t have imagined it any better if I had tried.

I have taken 285 screenshots but only 80 were uploaded now, because I seriously doubt many people (other than Rakuno, of course) would want to look at that many pictures. If you have any questions about anything you see on the screenshots, feel free to ask.

It took me quite some time to take all those screenshots, sort through them and upload them here. However, they’re not just for looking. If you want to use them (e.g., as a desktop wallpaper, for fanart, in your blog,…) feel free to do so – as long as it complies with ArenaNet’s copyright, of course, and you’re not saying it was you who took those screenshots. ;)

Waiting for the next BWE…

I’m definitely looking forward to the next Beta Weekend Event. And in order to get into the right mood already, I’ve uploaded a few more screenshots. Sadly, most of the 600 I have are from Lion’s Arch. So the next time, I’m going to explore other places.

Oh, and in case you haven’t pre-purchased yet (for whatever reason), ArenaNet is handing out lots of beta keys at the moment. Not directly but through fansites. I can’t list them all because I don’t know which sites got them but I’ll try to list as many as I can.
